any body here got mcpherson struts on their car
hey any body here got mcpherson struts on there car. i do and they are a mother. when i was getting my hydros installed i had to spend 300 more bucks to get the mcpherson struts redone by lona sons. i dont see how a company like gm wit such good ideas over the years could come up with a design for a car frame that is so stupid. all i can do wit my ride is fbss cuz of the uni-body.

Mcpherson strutts were a cheap alternative to 'other' systems as there are less moving parts to the whole system making them cheap for manufacture.
In the UK 90% of our cars are Mcpherson and they can be death traps if the install is not done correctly. If anyone tell you to just cut the top of the strutt off and slide your cylinder into the strutt slap them You need to have the bearing machined to run at the correct castor angle in the strutt mount and the strutt body needs to be replaced by the cylinder - kind like making a new strutt, dont bodge the old strutt and new cylinder together - its dangerous. |

my struts were never modified to fit a cylinder in it,mine is mounted diffrently...the strut was left for a better ride...but i hated how slow it raised and dropped,so i drilled hole in them and compressed all the gas out made a 1/2" port now it will drop and raise quick

Hmmm that doesnt look liek any Mcpherson strutt i've ever seen ? looks like a standard coil under affair, There's no bearing or locating guide and its not mounted to the top of the inner wing ???
What car is that ? |
