how far back you trying to go?
first car with hydro`s was Sonic X back in the 50`s or 60`s. it was based on a 53 vette. Or you going back when everyone rocked a steelpump head?

They started by using aircraft hydraulics from the junk yard. The reason was Cali passed a law saying that a car couldn't sit below a certain height. So when police come around they would raise it up so they didn't get a ticket. The new GTA San Andreas comes with a very imformative DVD on Lowriders.
