Question Clear Coating

How many coats of clear do you shoot on a candy Job...The guy i was speaking with mentioned 8-10 coats...Rich has advised no more than 3-4 coats of clear...What do you guys recommend or shoot when painting your ride??

I have never shot kandy, I would say between 3 to 7 though.

What is the most coats of clear you have sprayed on a car for the deep gloss look??

you are best applying 3 if using urathane clear any more would make it to thick and it would chip easier.

I deal w/ alot of candy when I do murals and straight up painting cars w/ heavy flake jobs....My method is to lay 1 dust coat for the rest to stick to....so 1 dust coat,2 to 3 more coats...let it harden 24 hrs., wet sand w/ 1000 grit up to 2000 grit and do the same process over again but buff this time after wet sanding....always turns out like glass as long as your paitent and time out each coat just right so you don't get any runs

very true and a good technique the only thing i would change and this is only because of a personal bad experience i had is after you clear the first time and you are ready to sand i would sand with 600 or 800 because using anthing finer will not provide a good surface for the second round of clear to hold. i have washed away clear before while washing a car funny thing about it only the second coat flew off. lol
