Post Looking at Upgrading my setup, need info

Ok, probably typical newbie questions, but I won't know if I don't ask...

I want to upgrade my pumps and tanks to chrome, and I'm thinking about going with Showtime. My setup right now is kinda mixed and matched, and rather ghetto looking.

1. Are pumps / blocks / heads / tanks all 'standard' and interchangeable? If not, what do I need to know to get ones that fit?

2. I've seen different pump heads that come in different numbers...#6, #8, #10. etc. I've gathered thru the posts that this affects speed, but I don't know how? Higher the number, faster the action? Which is best for standard street use, maybe occasionally hopping to impress the ladies?

3. Will any dump fit into any block? Kind of an extension of Question 1....

4. Does the size / make / length of your cylinders have any bearing on the type of pump, pumphead, or block that you will buy?

5. I'm a 'street' user, fairly switch happy, but I don't hop hardly at all. Should I go with a street pump, competition pump, etc etc?

Thanx in advance for any help!! If ya'll need more information about my current setup, I'll see what I can find out, but I bought the car already juiced and I really don't know what's in it. I know my front pump is a REDS, but the two pumps to the rear are different and have no names on them. The cylinders are red in color, but aside from that I can't find any brand markings. The front comes up pretty high, so I think I got at least 8" cylinders there, and the back comes up real high, so I'm guessing I got at least 12" there. Sorry for being so vague, but it's the best I can do (another reason I want to upgrade - so I know what I got!!)

Thumbs up

I have ran Showtime and had a good experience with them...For street use and minimal hoppin, you may want to consider a street kit...Depends really on how much $$ difference is between the comp kit and the street kit...You can still use those cylinders and i prolly would if it was me...As well as the hoses to keep ya costs down...Are you planning on going with 2 or 3 pumps??

I've got 3 pumps right now. I'm going to stay with 3 pumps, for the time being. I don't really need a whole kit - just getting new tanks and pumps, really. I just want to make sure I can use my existing blocks, dumps, and pump heads. But I don't know how to tell what I've got - i.e. what type of blocks, dumps and pump heads I have currently.

If i were you, i would just buy the whole pump new...May be cheaper anyways than piecing it together...If you want it to look right, (imo), get the same name pumps so you know when something breaks were to get parts...Just a heads up...How old you think the setup is in the car??
If they are old blocks, i dont know if newer shit will bolt up???

thats what i would do, it will be more cost effective, simplier and more likely to work correctly, plus then you will know 4 sure exactly what you have.
