age of the gears.. they do just wear out over time..
and over pressurization.... that would be the main. next is low fluid levels... then there is always contamination, which would be metal in the fluid... although, the metal comes from the head gear to begin with..... odd isnt it? |

depending on how many batteries you are running if you are running more than 4 in a series I reocomend "breaking" the head in gentaly buy running it off 2 batteries for a few days before getting down on it.
