Extending is also recommended. However this done primarily to fix the camber problems caused by hydraulics. Of course preventing over extending of the balljoints is another benifit of extending. Extending alone wont take the stress off the balljoints. Your cylinders will want to continue extending after the upper arms hit the frame. Alot of overlocking will cause several problems .Bent or folded upper a-arms, busted balljoints, cracked frame, Bent mounting ears. All kinds of shit. Thats why I use and recomend that people use 6" cyliders for the front And chain the front

I reckon i've got it now, Cool.
When the car is lifted the bottom of the top a-arm hits the frame and stops but the ram try's to continue expanding pushing the bottom A-arm away further, but the cant move because the top A-Arm is on the chassis so all the pressure goes into the ball joint. So where do you mount the chains, from the chassis to the bottom A-arm keepign it short enough to prevent the top A-arm hitting the chassis rail ? |

close,
attach 1 box on the lower arm, and 1 on the frame. then lift the car, right before it tops out, is how long you want the chains, That will keep the ball joints from stressing out and breaking. it wont kep them from breaking totally, but it will greatly improve the life span of a ball joint. |
