Unhappy Anyone ever put 4.5 ton coils in a X-frame Imp? ?

Need some pointers from anyone who has alrady installed 4 and a half ton coils in a 59 - 64 x-frame chevy. This guy at a shop told me I would have to heat and turn a coil end to make it fit. I am trying to avoid heating them. Is this common or is this bullsh*t?? Can I use the whole stack ? Do I have to weld the cups on? They are Showtime coils. I'm just tryin to do my homework b4 I take it apart
Thanx in advance for any info

no, dont heat them! you may have to cut... but dont heat them up like that... i would take it apart and see what fits, then decide which direction you need to go in.

Heating coils is never recommended but if you are carefull there is a way of heating them to relax the top wind so it lays flat.

get your coil in a bucket of water with just the top part exposed from the water, the water will take the intense heat away from the metal coil submerged which will stop heat distortion and stressing the coil so it wont fracture. Use an Oxy-Acetalene torch to gently heat the top wind up, keep the torch moving and dont concentrate one spot (no matter how tempting it is) when the whole top wind is glowing red hot you're almost there, keep applying the heat and get someone else to start to apply pressure and slowly and surely the top wind will start to drop, do this until its in the correct positon and then just leave the coil to cool at its own pace, dont douse it in cold water.

This method has been used for many many years by the Kustom boys long before pre-fabricated coils were available

are you talking about the 4.5 ton street coils from showtime that are $110 a pair?

if anyone has tried these coils, could you tell me what you think of them? cause im looking to buy a pair, but wondered about the performance of them considering they were less expensive than the 4 ton hopping coils...
