| I just checked my batts today with one of those expensive testers with the digital screen that says bad/replace/good/recharge. It said I had 5 bad ones and 3 marginal.(meaning probably bad) My friend was helping me and touched two batts together and surged my batts by accident for a good while before we could stop it. The guy who tested them said the walls inside the cells are weak or gone. DAMN!! I gotta go buy new batts now. $65 each!! Any advice or sympathy is welcome. =( Oh, and the tester also said 97% charged but only like 300cca's. My batts are supposed to be 925cca's!! |

| I can get em used for 20 bucks but those usually don't last that long or they are bad as soon as I hook them up. What do you mean by wholesaler? Cause I can go directly to Nationwide Battery and buy but they'd be about the same price or sometimes more cause of the name. But when I get them for 65 at my place, they last for almost 2 years. Thanks for the help. |

| . . .Regarding the damaged batteries. I would use a hydrometer and check for any material floating in the acid. If none or not a lot I would give them a 2 amp charge for about 24 to 48 hours. Let them set for about 8 hours and then use a hydrometer. Again, this time checking to see if they are fully charged and about the same weight for each cell. If OK but not fully charged, again slow charge for another 8-24 hours and repeat the testing. Thing about new batteries is that you are not to load test them until they have seen some use, (like around 3 months for starting use). I feel Interstate make a good battery, for starter use. For hydro use you should never drain them, and should always slow charge them. You see a car battery is made to start the car, provide a small amount of amps to help the ignition system and they always have a charge going to them If you drain your batteries and over charge them repeatedly, they will never last. You also need to rotate the batteries. Commercial grade batteries for golf carts, fork lifts, etc. are made to repeatedly charge and discharge. Stay away from any battery you can't add water to. Never add extra acid (electrolyte). Buy a well known brand and never rebuilds. Of course the saying goes that the chain is only as strong as the weakest leak, so try to buy them all new at the same time, meaning this is the best you can do.
