G-Body OWNERS!!! I NEED UR HELP!!!

Hey everyone.... I am having a slight problem... The prev. owner installed headers on my car and hacked off the O2 sensor wire somewhere.... I have been Googling on what the wire color is and the location, thinking maybe i could find it.... Cuz my car is running SUPER rich and its pissing me off!!!

I have the 3.8L V6 in my car.

Thanks for the help! John

the first prob is the 3.8 they are a notoriously bad engine,id save yourself the trouble and throw in a 350w.350 turbo trans or a 2004r tranny they will bolt up direct to the driveshaft with no mods except changing motor mounts and rerouting the fuel lines.but if your die hard about the 3.8 heres a tip the o2 is probably not your prob, when u run headers number one it kills your oil pressure and back flow(thats why u should run a high duration cam for header aplications,or do it the shade tree way and adv your timing a slight bit and put some hotter plugs(not too hot though you will burn your valves up then youll have even bigger probs).just for the record i ran a 3.8 with headers and 4.1 olds intake on it with a 4 barrel holly no computor or anything, and it ran like a top

Did you look to see if you have a plug not going anywhere, if the guy was smart he would have just unplugged the O2 sensor when taking off the exhaust manifold. Here is some info that might help.

Re: G-Body OWNERS!!! I NEED UR HELP!!!

a 350 would elimnate alot of head aches.... but i cant afford to do an engine swap..... also this car is my daily driver.... so fuel economy comes into play....

O yeah, i know its the O2 sensor because i jumped to diag. connector, and the only code I had was for an O2 sensor fault.... Plus the guy who owned this car before me, prob. just hacked off the damn plug.... cuz i cant find nothing.

If it's a daily drive a 350 swap is not economical plus a lot of work to say the least. Do you have a O2 bung hole in the headers? If not you will need to weld one in. If it was my car I would go back to the manifold exhaust, go to the wrecking yard and look at the motor that still has the O2 sensor in place, pick up the stock manifold. That should give you a idea of where to look put in a new sensor and you should be good.

no its not economical but neigther is lowriding lol.dont scare the kid now a 350 swap is not hard, there is no comp or anything to worry about.just yank the 3.8 which is only 7 bolts that hold it in 4 c member 1 tranny mount and 2 4 the m mounts.it takes me 3 hours to do it ,i did it to my gp a long time back.the holes for the motor mount are already in the frame on all g bodies.i got my motor and trans for 350 bucks(ironic price) and it done the very same day.all u need is proper shop equipmen like a cherry picker and what not

You're right it's not hard, it's a lot of work like I said. $350 for motor and trans that's player price. Did the 3.8 wiring harness work or did you have to get a v8 wiring harness? Did you’re throttle linage and shifter linage work too? What about the drive line? Is the 3.8 motor and trans the same length as a 350 motor and trans or did you just have to move the motor and trans mounts? I have never done a swap on the G-body but I have custom fit motor/trans in other cars and trucks.
