Re: Pertronix
I have done a electronic point conversion before, not that specific brand but similar. Make sure if you do it that you replace everything like new wires, plugs, rotor, cap, coil and make sure that they don't require a resister because some do but it's not included and you will be going back to the store.
they are cool, some have rev-limiters and they are easier to tune then the points. |

Re: Pertronix
i have done a few conversions in my day and id go with them if you want less hastle but honestly, there is a way to do a 12 volt from 6 volt in car and keep your points you ask well the 15 hp is a little bit of why.thats if your gonna keep the motor internally stock.now if you wanna roller gear and some camel hump 2.02s or something id change it all.tearing it all apart is easy its the rewire thats a biatch.and definately replace all wires(im talkin tails and headlights everything)and make sure to double the guage of wire that is currently ran in the car(unless it comes in the kit)year one sells a complete conversion kit,but its steep on price)

Re: Pertronix
yeah you get moisture problems, and they are hard to start when cold.id say screw it then and go for the whole 12 volt system and just update to hei style ignition.i have a nice hei 350 out of a monte carlo i had. its stock and needs heads(i robbed em for my 355 in the gp cause they were 72cc chambers)

My 63 have a points conversion in it THAT I DID MY SELF without change any of the wiring or charging components. It is easier to tune the motors because you don't need to set point gap anymore. It will give you a better spark and better fuel combustion relating in more house power. It take the older distributer setup and give you a modern one without changing the entire ignition system. |
