a 'cap' is used when the amp draws too much current for the normal battery and before the available power drops too low causing the system to drop out it draws the extra power it needs from the cap - or 'Capacitor' generally really long low bass tones can cause this to happen, and they're probably a bit overkill for daily use etc.

Thumbs up

Caps are used here in town by folks trying to compete in SPL competitions or just kids just have more money than they know what to do with

i've run systems with and without and if you don't have a high current amp then they are probally a waste of money for you.

I think CAPS are a great addition to a car that has good low end. The new Power Core are really nice and they do a great job of storing energy for you BASS amps. If you don't have them, your amp will draw that energy directly from the battery. Which casues your lights to dim.

a good friend of mine has been a professional audio installer for over 10 yrs and he told me never to use a capacitator... just upgrade your current battery or buy a new one.. <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Well some people don't like them, some do. Some believe, some don't. I personally don't like the stiffing caps banks, but Alumpro, makes a Capacitor that is a up 1/0 gauge input/output, that is 15 Farad and is not like the single caps or banks. The main problem is that they continue to draw power after your system has been shut down if they are not installed correctly. That is a problem cause it will definately drain your battery. But the Alumpro, has a remote lead that powers up along with you amplifiers, hbut still gives you the benefits of a Capacitor.

It continues to draw untill engine is shut off..Think of it as a trinkle of power it will not hurt anything, but could get warm if your on a straight 24hr drive...Its kinda like driving with your radio on without volume up dont hurt nothing....

Most have a remote wire hookup like Dirty mentioned that will shut on and off as your radio is turned on and off like your amps.
