capacitors do make a difference. you are storing electric charge that is used on demand. when the car is on your capacitor is charging until it attains maximum charge. once this results you basically have an open circuit, no current going to your amplifier. now when the amp is on it draws from the capacitor which charges and discharges exponentially as a function of the amplification needs. it helps your electrical system a lot. when this doesnt elimenate your power surges, then get a bigger alternator, but the capacitor is still very useful in helping the rigorous flucuations in your power system. plus they are cheap now adays, dont have to be a baller to own one. so not just for spl, good for daily drivers. now if you have a class D amplifier, then the need is far less.

i have suv with a wall in it with 4 solo 15 2 1200 amp and 800 4 way for the mids and highs added 2 batterys, a second alternator and a cap for each 1200 and can play my shit all day long and powering 7 tv's too so upgrade your power b/c the power that comes with the car or truck is just for the light, starting, and the normal system the is factory so just think about the strain your putting on the battery and alterntor on factory shit

There for quick bass to hit hard. spl poeple dont use them. The cap releases its power in a split second so the long bass played at spl contest doesnt really get helped. I have 5 batteries, 5 one farad caps, 150 amp altenator and the lights will still dim alittle.

in my opinion caps are way to high priced for what they can do, your lookin at about $100 per farad of cap for something good, and that will only help if your wattages are all under 1000 watts. if you dont have more farad than what wattage you have per 1000 watts then all your doing is causing more of a strain..
i always had better luck with just adding a second battery for $80 go to autozone and buy a duralast gold.. |

when you are at a SPL comp,a cap can help because you "burp" the subs..like a quick hard bass note to get the air inside to move very fast and hit the mic hard, therefore making the SPL go higher. a high output alt and as many batterys as you can get, will never be too much. long bass notes at a comp are a waste to me...i "burp" it and let er fly.....pause..turn up volume...un-pause ...BAM ! ! ! ! ...pause...thats how ya do it!! ![]() |
