Need Help ASAP...

OK, so my car has been in the shop getting bagged for 2 weeks now. The guy called me today and told me that the work is done, but for some reason the front will barely get up at all. He told me that he had the pressure up to 170 PSI and it barely got high enough to get it off the lift.
It is a 72 cadillac eldorado so I know it is a very heavy car (5000lbs) but with my set-up I should easily be locked all the way up at that pressure. Here is my setup: 3/8" lines all around, 8 solenoid valves, RE6 up front and RE7 in back, 2 viair 480c compressors, 12 gallon tank.
The front bags are installed so that they sit on top of the upper A-arm and are bolted to a plate that is welded onto the frame just above that.
I really don't get what the deal is with this, becasue the 6" bags should be able to lift almost 5000 lbs EACH at 170PSI....Really need some help with this one fellas. Thanks.

Re: Need Help ASAP...

You need to post some pics. I think you put the bags between the upper and frame because its a front wheel drive. The bags may not have the room to expand, I'm just throwing this out there but perhaps the closer the bag is to the a-rm mounting bolts the more it will take to lift, kind of a leverage thing. post up some pics of how the fronts look.

There was someone on here not to long ago that did a bunch od caddy's. Anyone remember who that was? try finding that post and contacting them.

Yeah, I was thinking about this problem some more last night and I came to the same conclusion that you were gettingat. The mounting location of the front bags is way too close to the a-arm to frame mounting bolts and it is not letting me get any sort of leverage.
That sucks...oh well, live and learn I guess.
Yeah, you are also right about the front wheel drive being the reason I went off the upper A-arm...I guess I will just fab a bracket to weld to the bottom A-arm that has a tunnel for the axle to run through and put the bag on top of that.
Do you think that will work (the mounting location of that one would be more than twice as far from the mounting bolts than the upper a-arm set up was)

If you can get that bracket in there and everything clears i guess it should. have to see some pics so i have an idea of actual location. Also if you put that big of a bracket in will you still have the travel you need to drop and the lower that car enough?

Yeah, the clearance will still be enough to get the drop I am looking for...I think I am going to give it a shot. I mean the way it is now is just not gonna work, so I guess I don't have much of a choice....we'll soon see.

Re: Need Help ASAP...

OK, now Im really confused. I just got a call from my install guy and he told me that he moved the front bag mounts to the lower a-arms and the front STILL wont raise! I really don't get what the problem is. The RE-6s that I have up there should EASILY be able to lift the front. I know the car is heavy, but each one of the bags should be able to push over 4000lbs. I am really in a bad spot here. The only idea I have left is to reinstall the torsion bars and use those to assist in the lift. I figure they will effectively make the weight the bags have to lift lower (at least until they reach their neutral twist point)...any help?

170 do you have gauges? I think you may have to go off the lower and frame and make your own mounting location but dont know how stable that will be
