Hello I need help!

Hey guys. I couldn't find a new member section. So I'm just going to start posting.

Before we get into the questions, feel free to point me towards any guides or project logs of rides being built if you feel they can help me gain knowledge on this subject.

My car : Mitsubishi Eclipse, 96

My main reason for wanting to start bagging is functional more than recreational. The roads in Olympia, WA suck. And since my car has a body kit all around and was lowered by the previous owner I NEED to raise it before it becomes my daily driver. I'm also attending college in Northern Colorado this September and I'd like to be able to drive this car when it snows.

I have contacted Airbagit.com and the guy there walked me through everything that I need to start bagging. So I understand the basic system, sort of.

My main questions have to deal with cost.

I was wondering if I could install the cylinders and run all of the lines needed for a fbss system with just shrader valves to start and adjust the height in my garage with an air compressor.

Basically this system would allow me to control my ride height at a lower initial cost as I would not have to buy a compressor, tank, and electrical system.

Will this work? I'm uncertain how much air systems fluctuate. Would this be annoying because I would have to check air levels every time I drive it? Or if I quadruple check to make sure there are no leaks will the pressure hold for a longer period of time. Also do I run any risk of destroying the cylinders? It would defeat the purpose of saving money if I end up having to replace a cylinder or worse, have to replace my bumper because my car dropped suddenly.

If anyone has any idea what I am talking about please voice your opinion. Feel free to be blunt but please explain the reasoning. Telling me I'm a noob doesn't really help me to understand.

thanks

Re: Hello I need help!

I would say get some stock springs and put them on. If you wanted to do the bags and have them on srader valves I'm sure there's a way you could do it. All you need to do is get the shrader to connect to the line from the cylinder. But thats just hella ghetto, I wouldnt do that.

Jamez,

Cant you set this guy up with a small system pretty cheap? I'm thinking small compressor 3gal tank and a manifold valve setup?

Re: Hello I need help!

what about Nitrogen?

From what I read it completely bypasses the charging system and is simply a scuba tank that you have to refill every once and a while.

Oh and the reason I I don't want to go with stock springs is because I can only find them for $500 front and back. That gets me halfway there to getting a cheap system.

Re: Hello I need help!

They want $500 for sme stock springs at the junk yard?

With the nitrogen you will still need to have all your valves and the holding tank. Your nitro will just fill your tank, you still need tha valves to hold back the air from your bags. If you wanted to, you could but in the bags and run the lines to a tank. hook the nitro to the tanks so if you want to lift your car open the nitro and the whole car will lift, down side is you will probably get body roll and you have to drain the whole system from the tank to drop the car. Also its still ghetto as hell. I would hold off until you can do the whole set up or get a new credit card and charge thst shit. Good news is you should get 0% interest for a while.

Jamez should be on today so lets see whats the cheapest he can hook you up for.

Re: Hello I need help!

the schrader idea wont work because of the small diameter of the cylinders they need the instantanious burst to get them moving. also even in a leakless system they will leak down just from temperature change. i can get you a complete basic setup for $1000 shipped. you could upgrade it at a later date. i dont know about mobbing around in the snow though. most places that see a decent amount of snow put salt on the roads which would eat the cylinder seals.......
