a 'cap' is used when the amp draws too much current for the normal battery and before the available power drops too low causing the system to drop out it draws the extra power it needs from the cap - or 'Capacitor' generally really long low bass tones can cause this to happen, and they're probably a bit overkill for daily use etc.
