Yes I have done it a few times....
My 63 have a points conversion in it THAT I DID MY SELF without change any of the wiring or charging components.
It is easier to tune the motors because you don't need to set point gap anymore. It will give you a better spark and better fuel combustion relating in more house power. It take the older distributer setup and give you a modern one without changing the entire ignition system.
