There's more to producing a convertible than chopping the roof off. The steel roof forms a vital part of a car's structure, giving it strength and rigidity, and that strength has to be replaced somehow once the roof is removed! Your going to have to add metal to reinforce the rear to keep it from buckling...specially if your going to juice it, the weight is just to much...and this is coming from experience on a Cougar we did...

Instead of chopping the top have you thought about a phantom top?
