True... heat and bags don't mix... i had the same problem when i bagged the rear of my cutlass... the exhaust on the drivers side was like 1/4" from the bag and it melted a hole in it within a week... what i done was simply cut off my exhaust about 5" before the axle... that was only a temp fix... i had it like that for 3-4 months and just 2-3 weeks ago i finally put the exhust back on... what i done was cut a small notch in the exhaust coming out of the muffler and bent it over a little, then welded the seam back up... then welded the exhaust together where i prevousely cut it off... haven't had a problem since.

A heat sheild might work, but if yours is anything like mine in the rear, you'll need to heat it up with a torch and bend it over a little, or cut a notch and bedt it over and weld it back up to get the exhaust as far from the bag as possible.
